Because this seems like a pretty smoking deal. I need a lighter computer to carry around. My Dell M4800 is roughly 11 pounds when I carry around the charger. I like the M4800 and use it for getting stuff done (i7, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd, and other pretty good numerical specs I’m not going to bother looking up).
I figure for $340 I can have an pretty solid built tablet PC that I can use for sketching (design major). 2 pounds, 7 hours of battery life, and a wacom digitizer. Seems perfect. I would like more RAM but I have the M4800 for the intense stuff. 4gb should be fine for light Photoshop stuff.

They’re worth getting as a Cintiq alternative. Mike from Penny Arcade has done a bunch of strips with his.

That seems like a good deal too. Surface 3s and 4s go for like $900 at least.

I just bought a Surface Pro 3 for just over $400. Used off ebay, but no issues so far. Went with a Pro 3 for W10.

Nope. I think we’ve talked about this before. Bought it from Dell refurbished. It’s a great computer, just heavy to carry around and has bad battery life if you run Indesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop at the same time.

I do like windows 10. What specs? I’m always a little worried about buying used electronics from ebay. I really only buy license plates from there.

Most machines will have shit battery life using those applications...
I loved my M4800 but the size and weight made it impractical for me. My E7450 is so much smaller and lighter (but the penalty is performance). Now I just do most of my work on my desktop but the E7450 is still okay for most things.

The 2 still has a Wacom screen?? Buy it. Put Win 10 on it if you want. It'll be good. The digitizer on the Pro 3 is my only gripe. Otherwise, I love it.

Unless you game or do actual development work, the specs are fine (but if you did either, you wouldn’t be looking in the $340 price range). The only “buyer beware” things to take into consideration are:
* It’s refurbished - not new, so if you buy it, make sure to test everything and carefully examine the build/refurb quality before the warranty period is up.
* The Surface keyboards are sold separately, so if you really want to take advantage of the Microsoft Surface, expect $340 not to be your all-in price.

I mean I do actual things. Like Indesign project boards, photoshop product renderings, and illustrator line work. Dont know if thats what you consider development. I have a $1500 computer for doing all the heavy things, like Rhino, but it’s kinda heavy.
This $340 budget is just suplementing the other laptop. I could use the SP2 for sketching, veiwing and tweaking projects on the go, and as a computer to use in classes.
I think every computer I’ve owned has been a refurb. Not too worried there. And I can always buy the pen and keyboard later. I have a Bluetooth one for the time being.

From what I hear it’s basically a small cintiq

Core i5, 4gb ram, 128gb SSD. Threw in a new SP4 keyboard which I much prefer to the earlier ones.
I share the same fear but I looked at a lot of them and eventually just pulled the trigger, haven’t had any issues so far. The one good thing about Surfaces in general is that they show wear really badly, so a unit that’s in mint cosmetic condition is very likely indicative of a unit that’s either not been used much or well taken care of.
Tldr: it's a gamble for sure but it's a pretty big discount too

I think I’ll go for the SP2. I don’t like messing with eBay, I’ve got burned with radio equipment before. Also I hear the Wacom digitizer is pretty good on it. Thanks for your help!

It'll last forever. My Motion tablet had 8 useful years.
